Useful crime in Brazil, who cares?

Abstract

The article aims to discuss the functioning of the prison and its relationship with violence and society through the production of crime. Bibliographic research and documentary analysis were used as methodology. The problematization that guides this reflection is: Who is interested in the failure of the prison, and not resocializing in what refers to resocialization? Is it possible to think of a society without prisons? The hypothesis would be: The failure of resocialization is fulfilling the purpose of producing delinquents for the maintenance of the system. The theoretical bases for the reflections presented here were Foucault and Goffman. The ideas are organized as follows: At first, we seek to understand the current panorama of prisons in Brazil based on data from the National Council of Justice and the Ministry of Justice in order to understand the ranking that Brazil occupies in the prison population. In a second moment with the theoretical support in Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault, imprisonment in Western society is analyzed together with the rise of capitalism. Finally, an alternative is presented for the possible solution to the problem.
